UCI Celebrates its Second Annual UCI Giving Day

ImageOn Wednesday, April 25, UCI celebrated its second annual Giving Day. It was a day for Anteaters everywhere to show their support for UCI. The day began with a series of celebrations across the campus which included a breakfast kick-off event in the Langson Library. Guests attending the breakfast were treated to coffee, a literal wall of doughnuts and a photo selfie station to share their Giving Day photos on social media.

The UCI Libraries received an outpouring of support from our Ambassadors, who were instrumental in helping to spread the word about Giving Day in the weeks and days leading up to the campaign. We are grateful for the support from this year's librarian Ambassadors, Linda Murphy and Christina Woo. Actress, author and UCI alumna, Grace Byers, also was extremely generous in helping to spread the word about the Libraries' participation in Giving Day on social media.

ImageThis year, gifts to the Libraries were directed to support improvements in study and collaboration spaces within all facilities and to the enhancement of our collections. The UCI Libraries received a total of over $23,315 from 49 gifts, directed to Library Fund for Excellence and to the Southeast Asian Archive Fund supporting the Archive as its 30th Anniversary comes to a close.

This generous support helped to unlock two wonderful gifts, a $15,000 challenge gift from Libraries Advisory Council Member, Kathy Houts Miller '69 and a matching gift of $2,500 from former University Librarian Dr. Calvin J. Boyer and his wife (and former Head of Cataloging) Mrs. Ruth R. Boyer.

The campus also exceeded its goal of 2,400 gifts in 24 hours with a total of over $4 million from 2,604 gifts campus-wide.
