On Wednesday, September 12, 2018 the UCI Libraries hosted Andrew J. Policano, Ph.D. for an enlightening talk on the state of the public university. Dr. Policano is the Dean's Leadership Circle Endowed Professor Emeritus of Economics/Public Policy at the UCI Paul Merage School of Business, and the former dean of the UCI Paul Merage School of Business.
Referencing his recent books, From Ivory Tower to Glass House: Strategies for Academic Leaders During Turbulent Times and Public No More: A New Path to Excellence for America's Public Universities; Dr. Policano discussed the costs of public education and the impact of public support. He described some of the disruptive forces that impact higher education (e.g. student expense and debt), the question of whether college is too expensive today.
Dr. Policano’s talk was followed by a reception, book sales and signing, and lively conversation.
