UCI Libraries are pleased to announce the launch of the Guide to Freely Available Resources for Alumni. Due to publishers’ licensing restrictions, students at universities nation-wide lose access to library resources once they graduate. While contractual restrictions on licensed content need to be followed, there exists alternative information resources on the internet that are freely available, if you only know where to find them. To help address that issue, UCI research librarians serving disciplines in the arts and humanities, social sciences, engineering, medicine and sciences collaborated to curate a guide to provide access to high quality Open Access (OA) resources for alumni. The Guide, which will be updated regularly, will help graduates navigate to the best possible information resources that are freely available.
For years, UC Libraries, like many other institutions, have made substantial investments and progress in support of Open Access - a publishing model for scholarly communication that makes research information available without financial, legal or technical barriers. New transformative deals mean that more and more scholarship by UC authors and researchers worldwide have become available in Open Access environments. The Guide provides a focused starting point for UC Alumni and others to locate and use this valuable, freely available information.
