Science Library Renovations continue on the 5th floor. In addition to the recent renovations to the second floor, the fifth floor will house the Student Excellence Center managed by the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning. It will include the Campus-wide Honors Collegium, Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program and Scholarship Opportunities Program. Also on the fifth floor will be new learning spaces managed by the Libraries, including: small group and workshop spaces for students, the iLab active learning classroom, the Visualization Wall perfect for viewing large-scale data visualizations, and the Science Library Collaboration Zone complete with moveable furniture and large digital displays that facilitate group work. The renovations will create fresh, exciting and productive study options for students and the new instruction and learning spaces will be beneficial to student recruitment, retention and academic success. UCI Library Search is launching Tuesday, July 27, 2021! Libraries on all 10 University of California campuses will be connected through UC Library Search, a unified discovery and borrowing system. The enhanced features of UC Library Search will replace Melvyl as the UC-wide library catalog search tool. As a single, unified system, UC Library Search offers powerful tools to help the UC Libraries make data-informed decisions around collections development and new services for library users. LIBRARIAN ACCOLADES
Julia Gelfand, UCI Libraries’ Research Librarian for Applied Sciences and Engineering, was recently named the 2021 Association of College and Research Librarians (ACRL) Academic/Research Librarian of the Year. The award recognizes an outstanding member of the library profession who has made significant national and international contributions to academic or research librarianship and library development.
Hector Perez-Gilbe, UCI Libraries’ Research Librarian for Health Sciences, has earned membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) at the Senior Level. The Academy is the Medical Library Association’s peer-reviewed professional development and career recognition credentialing program. AHIP promotes lifelong learning and exemplary professional performance by recognizing achievements in continuing education, teaching, publishing, research and other contributions to the profession.
Scott Stone, UCI Libraries' Research Librarian for the Performing Arts, has been elected to the National Board of the Music Library Association. Since joining the Collection Strategies department at UCI Libraries in 2014, Stone has made significant contributions to the Libraries and library profession generally. He has authored many articles and book chapters and edited Outreach for Music Librarians which was published by A-R Editions in 2019.

The virtual exhibit, celebrating the 30 year anniversary of the UCI Libraries’ East Asian Collection, can be viewed online.
