The Carpentries is the umbrella group for Software, Data, and Library Carpentry, where a diverse, global community of instructors, trainers and maintainers create and teach workshops on foundational coding and data science skills for researchers worldwide. Several UCI Librarians have gone through the process to be certified to teach the Carpentries curriculum. Starting in the spring of 2018, members of Digital Scholarship Services (DSS) have presented workshops teaching UNIX, Version Control with Git, and Python. We hope to increase the types of workshops the libraries offer in the future and are working to connect with other Carpentry instructors on campus. Here are some of the past workshops that were held:
- 1/31/19 – Unix Shell
- 2/13/19 – Version Control with Git
- 2/26/19 & 2/28/19 – Python
- 3/26/19 & 2/17/19 – Software Carpentry: Unix, Version Control with Git, and R
Registration for future workshops (“Learn to Code With Me”; “Programming with Python”) can be found on the Library Events webpage: https://news.lib.uci.edu/library-events
