Celebrating UCI's 40th Anniversary Libraries Support Undergraduate Research Librarian Supports Special Collections UCI Fortieth Anniversary Symposium & Exhibit |
Recently, a reader of this newsletter was inspired to make a gift enabling the Libraries to purchase one of the books listed in the Wish List section. ronald kaufman (who prefers the lower case spelling), made a generous gesture and donated the funds necessary for the UCI Libraries to acquire the Dictionary of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. ronald made the gift because he believes that this volume addresses a critical issue about which far too much misinformation is being spread. He recognizes that by making this title available he can support the efforts of people who want to have informed and intelligent discussions about the subjects involved. ronald grew up in Southern California and then spent some time in Mexico. He attended Los Angeles City College and Los Angeles State College (now California State University, Los Angeles), where he studied under Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. He moved from Mexico to Orange County in 1960. He went on to study law and finally made a career for himself in surety. He used the Libraries for some of his research on the surety business. He has recently retired and has more time for his passions, gardening and traveling. ronald became involved with UCI Libraries when the University first opened in the mid-1960s. He met Dan Aldrich, UCI's first Chancellor, on several occasions and continues to attend library events. |
