Dear Friends and Supporters,
In this Issue, we are excited to share some of UCI Libraries’ recent accomplishments and future plans.
We start off the newsletter by thanking Marsha Lloyd ’74, for a generous gift to establish an endowment that will support the Libraries into the future. As a public library administrator, Marsha truly understands the importance of supporting user needs.
We hosted several engaging events this fall, including a book talk by former Merage School of Business Dean Andrew J. Policano, which helped us think about the cost and value of higher education.
In November, we opened the Libraries’ exhibit, “Donald McKayle: Dancing for all Time,” which honors Professor McKayle’s important legacy. This exhibit is available for viewing until March 2019 in the Muriel Ansley Reynolds Gallery located in the Langson Library lobby. We celebrated the opening with an event headlined by Dennis Nahat, producing manager of The Donald McKayle Legacy, and Debbie Blunden-Diggs, artistic director of Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, in discussion with moderator Dr. Jennifer Fisher, Associate Professor of Dance.
We continue to actively engage the Orange County community in preserving regional history with partners such as Alberto Treviño Jr and Fred L. Emmert, as well as programs that involve students in collecting the histories of diverse communities, such as our Transforming Knowledge, Transforming Libraries project and our support for the inaugural Orange County Archives in Action event, which brought together a number of local institutions that preserve regional history.
We are gratified by the level of engagement and support that we have received from the campus and community over the past year, and we look forward to exploring opportunities to invite you to the Libraries to see our programs and services in action over the coming year!
Sincerely,
Lorelei Tanji
University Librarian
