Libraries Host Past Medalists and Supporters at UCI Medal Dinner
In this 50th Anniversary year of UCI, the campus paid tribute to all the past recipients of the UCI Medal (the highest honor award by the University) at this year's event. The dinner, which took place on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Bren Events Center, featured many of the past Chairs of the UCI Foundation Board, reflecting on the growth of the campus over the past five decades.
Each of the campus Deans hosted a table at the event, supported through the generosity of a donor. The UCI Libraries were fortunate to host John and Elizabeth Stahr, who were awarded the UCI Medal in 2003. The Libraries also hosted June Van Den Noort. Mrs. Van Den Noort was acknowledged for her late husband's contributions to UCI as a Medalist in 2008.
Also in attendance were Drs. Masami and Walter Stahr (Elizabeth and John's daughter-in-law and son), Dolores Grunigen (the Forest J. Grunigen, M.D. Memorial Medical Library at UCI is named in tribute to her late husband) and Lynda and Tom Salinger.
The evening was a wonderful celebration of achievement for the campus. All of the Medalists in attendance were recognized with a commemorative pin, presented to them by students.
Chancellor Gillman closed the evening's festivities with the announcement that the campus successfully completed the Shaping the Future Campaign.
