Gift from John and Elizabeth Stahr Enhances Research Collections
The Libraries are pleased to announce a major gift by John and Elizabeth Stahr to enhance the Stahr Library Fund for the research collections. The gift will help the Libraries’ purchase the highest caliber print and electronic books and journals for our students, faculty and community members.
“Libraries are the heart of all learning,” said Elizabeth Stahr. “Without books and resources, students will not learn how to read and write and that is the most important thing that they should learn in their college years. You do not have a good university without a good library.”
“The generous support and friendship John and Elizabeth have shown towards the Libraries is a true testament of their belief in the power of knowledge to impact the lives of our students, scholars and community members,” said University Librarian Lorelei Tanji. “The Stahr Library Fund has been critical in helping the Libraries acquire excellent research materials over the years and this additional funding will allow us to better respond to emerging developments in learning and research.”
The Libraries’ highest priority is to build strong, deep and diverse collections that are carefully selected to address UCI’s cutting-edge research and instruction needs. Collection funds such as the Stahrs help the Libraries acquire research resources that enhance the value of a student's educational experience and lead scholars to new discoveries.
The Stahr Library Fund webpage displays all of the titles acquired with the fund as well as the digital bookplate that was created in the couple’s honor.
John and Elizabeth Stahr have been steadfast supporters of the Libraries and UCI since 1964. They received the UCI Medal in 2003 in recognition of their exceptional support of the university.
