New Research Resources Division
The UCI Libraries have created a new organizational structure to enhance its ability to support UCI’s research and scholarly communication in the 21st Century. We are delighted to announce the appointment of John Renaud as Assistant University Librarian to lead the Libraries’ new Research Resources Division.
Rapid changes in technology and related shifts in research and scholarly communication are transforming the Libraries role on campus. For example, in response to the emergence of digital research, the Libraries have created a range of new services, such as offering tools that assist with the development of research data management plans, managing institutional repositories, and disseminating research outputs through open access mechanisms. The avalanche of information in the age of digital research has the potential to be overwhelming, and much of it will get lost if no one builds the tools to organize it, make it accessible and discoverable, and preserve it for future generations of scholars.
“I am very pleased to be joining the UCI Libraries at a time when we are building momentum and strategies to meet the new challenges created by the evolving scholarly communication environment,” said Renaud. “From my first visit to UCI, I could sense the great energy, enthusiasm, and dedication in the Research Resources team, and throughout the Libraries, to create success in these areas.”
One of the priorities of the new division will be the development of mature and sustainable Digital Scholarship Services to support the efforts of faculty and students to share digital content to the broader scholarly community.
