Rina Vecchiola

Since joining the UCI Libraries in 2002, Research Librarian Rina Vecchiola has enjoyed the diversity of her work on a variety of library projects. “What I like best about working at UCI, is that I’ve been offered many unanticipated opportunities to broaden my skills as a librarian, such as working with high school teachers and their students, team-teaching with members of other campus units, and collaborating on projects for the California Digital Library.”

In her current position as Research Librarian for Art History, Studio Art and Spanish & Portuguese, Rina is responsible for instruction, reference, and collection development and is particularly interested in expanding information literacy instruction for studio art and art history students and in supporting the use of digital image resources for instruction and research. “I’ve been working on an outreach plan to promote the different digital image resources that are available to students and faculty at UCI,” said Rina. “These resources are often not well known, but can really enhance the teaching and learning experience.”

Rina recently attended the University of Minnesota Libraries’ Institute for Early Career Librarians from Traditionally Underrepresented Groups. “It was a great opportunity to develop my leadership and organizational skills while networking with other librarians across the nation,” said Rina.

Before joining the staff at UCI, Rina worked as the director of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s library and managed the slide library of the Art Department at Santa Barbara City College. She has a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from UCLA, an M.A. in History of Art and Architecture from UC Santa Barbara, and a B.A. in Art History and International Relations from UC Davis.
