New UCI Libraries Website

ImageOur new website was released on Monday, January 4th, taking over the web address at https://www.lib.uci.edu. The UCI Libraries have discussed potential changes to our websites for quite some time; assessing what works well and what needs to be updated through careful and thorough user studies. Some of the notable features of this new website include:

• Optimized viewing across a wide range of devices (desktop computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones) using responsive web design techniques.
• Prominent search engine that pulls results from the web site, subject guides, databases, and catalogs.
• Easier to find quick links to frequently requested information: Hours, Connecting from off campus, Borrowing options, Subject/Course Guides, Course Reserves, etc.
• Updated menu navigation and page organization.
• Sliding carousel to highlight scholarly resources and Library events.

In addition, the page styling has been updated and streamlined to increase readability of content, update branding, and improve the overall look of the site while meeting guidelines for accessibility.

While this new release originally had roots in internal assessments and mockups from an external consultation company, the next step comes from your feedback and the examination of your actions while using the new website.

Our Web Services Unit consisting of Web Services Supervisor, Ashley Burke and Programmers/Analysts Chloe Lerit, Mark Vega, and Robert Crippin have worked tirelessly throughout the Fall and Winter Quarters to continue user assessment and design enhancements, and have looked at the search terms and site browsing methods to better understand how you use our resources and what you want to see. Looking forward, rest assured that the enhancements to functionality and look of the site will continue to be refined over time. This website is just as much a resource for the UCI community as it is for the libraries, and we will continue to look at your feedback and website analytics to meet your needs of today and tomorrow.
