Winners of the 2013 Library-UROP Fellowship Awards
The UCI Libraries inspire discovery and innovative student research through its collections and services. As part of our mission to support undergraduate research, The UCI Libraries, in cooperation with the UCI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), sponsor the Libraries-UROP Research Fellowship (LURF) awards.
The 2013 winners of the competitive LURF awards are Adrienne Nguyen, Deborah Lewis, Kenneth W. Lai, Y. T. Nguyen, Natalie Badalof, Linh K. Le, and Amerita Khoshoo. Their research projects investigated subjects as diverse as the historical memory of the Vietnam War, America’s first Jewish orphanage, the letters of H.P. Lovecraft, the influences on the Chinese Revolution, the letters of Brooks Farm, the rise of Hatsune Miku, and the legends and legacies of Hiram Bingham, Henry Steels, and Indiana Jones.
Top award winner Adrienne Nguyen’s project, Second Generation Vietnamese American and the Historical Memory of the Vietnam War, was inspired by archival materials in the Libraries’ Southeast Asian Archive.
LURF Fellows have the opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor and a research librarian who is a subject expert in the student’s field of inquiry.
Co-funded by the Libraries’ Nellie Ansley Reeves Award Endowed Fund and UROP, the LURF Awards provide up to $500 per proposal to support and encourage completion of the student’s research project.
