Fall 2018

From the University Librarian

Lorelei Tanji

Dear Colleagues,

In this Issue, we are excited to share some of UCI Libraries’ recent accomplishments and future plans.

During the past quarter, we rolled out a number of new services for faculty and students including a new library search platform, which brings a modern discovery interface for finding materials in the UCI Libraries catalog.  We appreciated the feedback and support that we received from you during this project implementation!

In November, we opened the Libraries’ exhibit, “Donald McKayle: Dancing for all Time,” which honors Professor McKayle’s important legacy.   This exhibit is available for viewing until March 2019 in the Muriel Ansley Reynolds Gallery located in the Langson Library lobby.  We celebrated the opening with an event headlined by Dennis Nahat, producing manager of The Donald McKayle Legacy, and Debbie Blunden-Diggs, artistic director of Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, in discussion with moderator Dr. Jennifer Fisher, Associate Professor of Dance.

We are also working hard towards renovating our main library instruction space, which will convert a traditional instruction lab into an active learning space for our librarians to better engage your students when teaching library research skills.

The Libraries continue to grow our capability to support Digital Humanities and other digital scholarship projects through our Software Carpentries Workshops and other initiatives, and we are actively engaged in exploring the changing landscape of scholarly publishing through our various Open Access Week events and activities.

We are gratified by the level of engagement and support that we have received from the campus and community over the past year, and we look forward to exploring opportunities to invite you to the Libraries to see our programs and services in action over the coming year!

Sincerely,

Lorelei Tanji
